The global Council on Brain Health (GCBH) experiences that supplements offered to enhance your memory and to forestall dementia are a waste of your cash. There is no good evidence that any over-the-counter or prescription complement can delay the onset of dementia, or stop, treat or reverse Alzheimer’s illness. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is prevented from regulating foods and all of those merchandise are bought as meals, so supplement makers have no real incentive to check their products for advantages or security. The GCBH report on supplements discovered little evidence that any of the merchandise improved memory or brain perform, although the authors say that DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid in fish oil, may help a little bit bit. • People over age 50 should be checked for B9 and B12 deficiencies. • People taking certain drugs, reminiscent of blood thinners, heart medications, steroids or immune suppressants, may need to have their vitamin K and other nutrient ranges checked. • People with certain diseases and people preparing for surgical procedure may have particular nutritional wants.
